Abstract
Progressive cognitive impairment is the hallmark of Alzheimer's disease. For those 65 years of age and older, it is the most prevalent kind of dementia. The entire brain mass decreases with Alzheimer’s - the tissue experiences progressively more limited nerve cells and networks. Pathologically Alzheimer’s disease is caused because of the intracellular neurofibrillary tangles and extracellular amyloidal protein which results in the deposition of plaques which obstruct the communication between the nerve cells resulting in neurodegenerative disease. The main two available treatments for Alzheimer’s disease are Cholinesterase inhibitors with N-methyl D-Aspartate antagonists . In adding to this lesser known treatments such as accessibility of newer atypical anti-psychotics, anti-depressants, hormonal replacement therapy, anti-oxidants, and HMG Co-A reductase inhibitors.
