The historical integration of nutrition and therapeutics is deeply rooted in classical medicine, famously exemplified by Hippocrates, the foundational figure of Western medicine. He famously advocated for the convergence of diet and healthcare through the maxim, "Let food be your medicine and let medicine be your food." Demonstrating an early understanding of botanical pharmacology, Hippocrates compiled a comprehensive compendium that documented approximately 400 distinct medicinal plant species, validating the therapeutic potential of natural products. The extract has been found to have anti-androgenic and anti-spermatogenic effects in male mice. This means that it can inhibit the development of male sexual characteristics and reduce sperm production. The mechanism of action appears to involve disruption of key biochemical pathways within the testes and a reduction in testosterone production. Testosterone is a crucial hormone for male fertility, as it stimulates the production of sperm. By reducing its levels, the extract effectively suppresses male fertility.
