Abstract : Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the leading cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD) globally. Proactive lifestyle modifications and early diagnosis mitigate economic, humanistic and clinical expenses. Objective: The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate the feasibility, reliability and preliminary efficacy of the ‘Community Driven Diabetic Nephropathy Prevention’ (CDDNP) package on rural diabetic people’ knowledge, perception, lifestyle behaviors and biochemical Methodology: A quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design was conducted with forty medically diagnosed Type-2 diabetes patients (n=20 study group; n=20 control group) from two adoptive communities. The study group got the two phase CDDNP program (kiosk worker training, community led Buzz group sessions, IEC, Tai-Chi and family parleying). Results: The CDDNP package has significantly improved the mean scores of the study group from pre-test to post-test: knowledge from 14.75 ± 2.75 to 22.30 ± 1.92 (t = 8.16, p = 0.001); perception from 42.15 ± 4.46 to 68.05 ± 5.44 (t = 14.01, p = 0.001); and lifestyle adherence from 28.25 (2.31) The 4-week evaluation revealed stable biophysiological and serum creatinine values. No significant difference was identified in the measurements for the control group. Conclusion. The reliability of the instruments was sufficient (0.81-0.88). The pilot study demonstrates that the intervention technique is logistically viable and effective for rapid health education.
