CHANGING SOCIAL VALUES IN THE AGE OF TELEVISION SERIALS
Television Culture, Media Influence, Religious Serials, Family Dramas, Social Change, Consumerism, Emotional Alienation, Cultivation Theory.
Television remains one of the most influential cultural institutions in contemporary society. Religious serials, family dramas, love-triangle narratives, and marriage-centered reality shows significantly shape public perceptions, beliefs, emotions, and social behavior. While these programs claim to promote culture, morality, family values, and entertainment, their repetitive narratives often create unrealistic expectations about relationships, religion, wealth, and social status. This paper critically examines how television programming contributes to the transformation of social values, emotional sensitivity, interpersonal relationships, and collective consciousness. The study argues that excessive exposure to sensationalized religious content and melodramatic relationship narratives has encouraged consumerism, emotional dependency, superstition, and social fragmentation while weakening empathy, community bonds, and rational thinking. The paper employs sociological theories of media influence, cultivation theory, and cultural studies to investigate the changing nature of society under television's pervasive influence
