BIOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF ANTI-ASTHMATIC HERB JUSTICIA ADHATODA (VASAKA)

For thousands of years, plants have been essential to preserving human health and elevating the standard of living. A well-known herb for treating conditions including asthma, bronchitis, cough, dyspnea, external bleeding, is Justicia adhatoda. A well-known evergreen shrub in the Acanthaceae family, Justicia adhatoda is a plant species that is used to make traditional medicine. The leaves and flowers of the medicinal plant Justicia adhatoda. Investigations were conducted on leaf TLC, phytochemical screening, extractive values in methanol, quantitative analysis, macroscopy, and microscopy. The powdered leaf had a harsh flavor and a dark green appearance. The methanolic extract included steroid/triterpenes, glycosides, and alkaloids. The chemical composition of the leaf was verified by TLC. Justicia adhatoda leaf is useful for basic requirements of identity, quality, and purity. The bark, leaves, flowers, and roots of this plant are used to treat a variety of illnesses. The phytochemical activities are reported in the current study. Plant leaves that had been pulverized were extracted using methanol solvent. This outcome demonstrated that the plant had many phytochemicals. The presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, tannins, proteins, steroids, and phenols was identified by qualitative analysis. The variety of phytochemicals discovered indicates that the leaf of Justicia adhatoda may be a potential source of therapeutics. Their secondary metabolism produces essential oils, which are responsible for most of their characteristics
