Abstract

This study examines the existing pathways for the management of glass waste in the construction industry, which include the options of reuse, remanufacturing, and recycling. The study is motivated by the fact that large amounts of glass waste are disposed of by various sectors, including major contributions from the construction and food sectors. The low recycling rates and accumulation at landfills also drive the need for efficient circular strategies. This study compares existing pathways of reuse and recycling in terms of material retention, environmental impact, energy use, and performance to assess their feasibility for long-term circular economy goals and waste management by developing a matrix system. The study concludes that the reuse of waste and minimising downcycling lead to achieving environmental sustainability.
