Abstract
Health and fitness have become major concerns in modern society due to increasing rates of obesity, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, stress, and mental health disorders. Among the various approaches to maintaining health, yoga and general exercise are two of the most popular methods. Yoga is an ancient mind-body practice that combines physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation, while general exercise includes activities such as walking, jogging, cycling, strength training, and aerobic workouts. This research paper aims to compare yoga and general exercise in terms of their physical, mental, and overall health benefits. The study examines existing literature and scientific findings regarding their effectiveness. Results indicate that both yoga and general exercise provide significant health benefits, but they differ in their primary outcomes. General exercise is more effective for improving cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength, and calorie expenditure, whereas yoga excels in enhancing flexibility, balance, mental well-being, and stress reduction. The findings suggest that neither practice is universally superior; rather, the choice depends on an individual's health goals, age, physical condition, and lifestyle. A combination of yoga and general exercise may offer the most comprehensive health benefits.
