The increasing complexity of global supply chains and the rising cost of transportation have compelled organizations to seek innovative approaches for freight cost management. Freight cost optimization has emerged as a critical strategic objective for logistics organizations aiming to improve operational efficiency and profitability. This study investigates the role of data analytics in freight cost optimization, with particular emphasis on freight auditing, discrepancy detection, billing accuracy, and cost savings. The research was conducted at Aptean, Coimbatore, a leading provider of enterprise software solutions specializing in transportation and supply chain management.
A descriptive research design was adopted, and primary data were collected from 120 employees involved in logistics, finance, operations, and analytics functions. Statistical tools including Percentage Analysis, Reliability Analysis, Chi-Square Test, Correlation Analysis, Regression Analysis, and ANOVA were employed using SPSS software. The findings reveal that data analytics significantly enhances freight audit effectiveness, reduces manual effort, improves transparency, and contributes to substantial cost savings. The reliability analysis yielded a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.985, indicating excellent internal consistency. Correlation analysis demonstrated a strong positive relationship between freight auditing and billing accuracy (r = 0.848, p < 0.01), while regression analysis revealed that data analytics factors explain 61.3% of the variation in freight cost savings.
The study concludes that organizations integrating data analytics with freight auditing systems can significantly improve logistics performance, optimize transportation costs, and achieve sustainable competitive advantage.
