Urban Landscape Architecture has emerged as one of the most vital disciplines in contemporary urban development, specifically addressing the growing imperative to integrate natural ecological systems within built environments. Rapid and unplanned urbanization across the globe has resulted in the progressive loss of green spaces, widespread environmental degradation, increased pollution, disruption of natural water cycles, and a measurable decline in the quality of life of urban residents. In direct response to these challenges, Urban Landscape Architecture focuses on the intentional design of sustainable outdoor environments that enhance ecological balance, promote social interaction, and increase the aesthetic value of cities. This study comprehensively examines the foundational principles, practical strategies, and long-term impacts of landscape architecture in urban areas, highlighting its pivotal role in promoting sustainability through green infrastructure, ecological restoration, climate-responsive design, and water-sensitive urban planning. The research is grounded in qualitative analysis of existing academic literature, planning documents, and illustrative case studies from both global and Indian contexts, providing actionable insights into how landscape interventions improve environmental performance and contribute to urban resilience. The findings strongly indicate that effective landscape design contributes significantly to environmental sustainability, social well-being, and economic vitality, while also surfacing important challenges related to implementation, funding, and long-term maintenance that must be addressed in future planning frameworks.
