This paper aims to achieve the level of influence of architectural designs on the perceived legibility and navigation of spaces. The main objective of this paper is to demonstrate that modern offices have become more complex, with areas for collaborative work, rest, and movement. This complexity can result in confusion and disorientation among users of such spaces, but can be solved by designing according to users' and space requirements
The current research is anchored on ideas drawn from psychological theory as well as the theoretical idea proposed by Kevin Lynch related to legibility of urban spaces, and tries to apply this idea to the design of interior spaces. The current study measures the extent to which different factors, such as spatial organization, movement of the users, landmarks, and intervisibility between spaces, affect space navigation by office workers. This includes various office types ranging from open offices, offices subdivided into smaller units, and flexible offices, depending on the type of office environment. The findings of this research demonstrate the level of impact of a well-designed environment on the occupants. According to the findings of this study, a well-designed environment will lead to a reduction in stress levels of occupants, enhanced work efficiency, and well-being of occupants.
The conclusions drawn from this study suggest that when designing office spaces, an architect must focus on the perception and behavior of occupants in addition to understanding psychological and navigation principles. Legibility has been emphasized as a factor in the design of office spaces.
