A Comprehensive Review on the Supportive Role of Selected Botanicals in Cholesterol and Triglyceride Regulation: An Integrative Phytotherapeutic and Electropathy Perspective

Hyperlipidemia is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by elevated serum
cholesterol and triglyceride levels, contributing significantly to global cardiovascular
morbidity and mortality (1,2). The condition arises from complex disturbances in
hepatic lipid metabolism, intestinal absorption, endocrine regulation, oxidative stress,
and chronic inflammation (3–5). These pathological mechanisms collectively result in
endothelial dysfunction and progressive atherosclerotic disease.
Conventional lipid-lowering therapies such as statins and fibrates are clinically effective
but are associated with long-term adverse effects including myopathy and hepatic
enzyme alterations (13,17). This has increased interest in complementary therapeutic
systems such as phytotherapy, which provides multi-targeted biochemical modulation
with relatively safer profiles (11,12).
This review evaluates a botanical formulation consisting of Cochlearia officinalis,
Echinacea angustifolia, Hydrastis canadensis, and Thuja occidentalis. Their
phytochemical composition, pharmacological activities, and metabolic relevance are
analyzed in detail. The formulation demonstrates antioxidant and immunomodulatory
effects but limited direct lipid-lowering efficacy (6,7). An electropathy-based
interpretation is also included to provide a holistic understanding of metabolic
imbalance.
