Cloud Computing in Healthcare: Opportunities, Challenges, and Security Concerns

Cloud computing has quietly become one of the most important pillars of modern healthcare infrastructure. In this paper, we explore
how cloud technologies are reshaping the way hospitals, clinics, and health systems store, process, and share massive volumes of patient data.
We examine the key applications — Electronic Health Records (EHR), telemedicine, medical imaging, and clinical decision support — alongside
a detailed analysis of prevailing security threats, privacy regulations, and emerging mitigation strategies. The study adopts a systematic survey
methodology, reviewing 22 recent publications from IEEE Xplore, PubMed, and Springer spanning 2010 to 2025, with primary focus on studies
published after 2019. Our findings indicate that while cloud adoption in healthcare is accelerating, significant gaps persist in interoperability,
compliance enforcement, and real-time threat response. We also present a multi-layer cloud healthcare architecture and comparative analysis
of major platforms including AWS HealthLake, Microsoft Azure Health Data Services, and Google Cloud Healthcare API. The paper concludes
by identifying future directions — federated learning, blockchain integration, and edge-AI convergence — as promising frontiers for research.
