Abstract

Abstract Shoulder injuries are common among boxers due to repetitive high-velocity punching actions and the substantial forces transmitted through the shoulder complex. Impaired scapular stability may contribute to shoulder pain, reduced force generation, and compromised athletic performance. Scapular stabilization exercises have been recommended to improve shoulder function; however, evidence specific to boxers remains limited. Objective To investigate the effect of an eight-week scapular stabilization exercise program on shoulder pain and punching performance in competitive boxers. Methods Thirty male amateur boxers aged 18–25 years with mild to moderate shoulder pain were randomly assigned to an experimental group (n = 15) and a control group (n = 15). The experimental group received scapular stabilization exercises in addition to routine boxing training, while the control group continued routine boxing training alone. Shoulder pain was assessed using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and punching performance was evaluated through punch velocity and punch force measurements. Pre- and post-intervention assessments were conducted over eight weeks. Results The experimental group demonstrated significant reductions in shoulder pain and improvements in punching performance compared with the control group (p < 0.05). Significant improvements were observed in punch velocity and punch force following the intervention. Conclusion Scapular stabilization exercises effectively reduced shoulder pain and enhanced punching performance among amateur boxers. Incorporating these exercises into boxing conditioning programs may improve performance while reducing injury risk.
