Use of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer (FTIR) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) in Characterization of High Density Polyethylene Polymer Blend
Key Words: Polymer Blending, Scanning Electron Microscope, FTIR, Material Science etc.
Polymer blending is the alternative in the field of material science and engineering because modern technology requires materials with blended properties that are lacking in the conventional class of polymers. The world's population is growing daily, necessitating more advanced technological needs. High-density polyethylene (HDPE) and polystyrene (PS) were mixed in different percentage ratios in this study, including 50% HDPE/50% PS and 100% HDPE 0% PS. Using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer (FTIR), several characterisation studies were carried out to ascertain the characteristics of both the PB1 and PB2. The produced mixes were also subjected to a water absorption test. The findings showed that because of its greater strength and water absorption, PB2 has superior qualities over PB1.
