ABSTRACT :
The interrelation of space, perception, and place is one of the fundamental aspects of architectural studies. Space, in its physical form, exists as a measurable and functional environment. However, it changes its character to ‘place’ with the inclusion of human experience, memory, and emotional value. Perception, which is linked with sensory stimuli and behavioral interaction, also plays an important role in this phenomenon. The outdoor public environment offers a rich opportunity to research the impact of architectural elements and environmental conditions upon human experience. This research aims to examine the concept of space, perception, and place through behavioral and sensory analysis of the outdoor environment. The research location of this study was Sanjay Jalashay, Pithampur. This location offers various elements such as stepped edges, open spaces, shaded areas, and a direct visual relationship with the waterfront. Through behavior mapping and observational analysis of the location over the evening time frame of 5-7 PM, various aspects of human behavior and interaction with the environment have been identified. The inclusion of shaded areas and a direct visual relationship with the waterfront have been found to have a high value of stay. The sensory aspects of the environment, such as the sound of water, cool breeze, reflected light, and texture of materials, also played an important role in enhancing the overall user experience. The differences in human activity over this evening time frame also indicate the dynamic interaction of human behavior with the environment.
