FIBER REINFORCED POLYMER AS A SUSTAINABLE MATERIAL IN BUILDING CONSTRUCTION
Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP), Sustainable Construction, Structural Strengthening, Seismic Retrofitting, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Durability, Corrosion Resistance.
Fiber Reinforced Polymer is recently invented material for construction; it acts as alternative to steel and concrete structure and provide many advantages : environmentally and economically. It is characterized for its strength and material durability despite being lightweight FRP structures are rust and corrosion resistant and allows increased lifespan and sustainability of construction.
This study aims to examine various kinds of FRPs (GFRP, CFRP, AFRP). Also, it presents manufacturing processes of the materials, e.g., pultrusion, and describes construction applications, paying attention to seismic retrofitting of buildings and constructions with the usage of FRP structures. It relies on methods of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in order to demonstrate that usage of FRP increases the strength and lifespan of constructions, while also reducing their future maintenance costs
