The food delivery industry in India has undergone a significant transformation due to digitalisation, driven by the rise of platforms such as Zomato and Swiggy. Digital technologies including mobile applications, real-time tracking, data analytics, and digital payments have enhanced operational efficiency and expanded market reach.
This study examines the financial impact of digitalisation on the Indian food delivery sector using secondary data from industry reports and company disclosures. While digitalisation has led to increased order volumes, customer acquisition, and revenue growth, it has also introduced complex cost structures including logistics, marketing, and technology expenses.
The findings indicate that although the industry demonstrates strong growth, profitability remains a challenge due to rising operational costs and competitive pressures. The study concludes that digitalisation has created a scalable but financially strained business model, raising concerns about long-term sustainability.
