Attitude towards Mathematics Secondary School Students Academic Achievement Participation in Activities Educational Psychology
The present study investigates the attitude of boys towards mathematics among secondary school students in Jodhpur district. A sample of 50 boys from class 9th was selected. The study focuses on factors such as participation in mathematical activities, achievement (prize/rank), and Mathematics attitude. The findings indicate that most boys have a moderately positive attitude towards mathematics, with variations based on background and participation.
Overall, students’ attitudes toward mathematics have been generally moderate. This includes their mathematical aptitude—specifically within the realm of mathematical skills—which was assessed as part of their broader mathematical perspective, given the inherent nature of the subject. The findings suggest that there is scope for improvement within the subject, particularly regarding how mathematical skills are acquired and applied.
A significant disparity was observed between positive and negative attitudes toward mathematics; consequently, there is a clear need for the enhancement of mathematical skills.
Research shows that attitude towards mathematics includes cognitive (beliefs), affective (feelings), and behavioral (actions) components which influence learning outcomes.
