Gaertn. Baheda or Beleric Myrobalan are other names for Terminalia bellerica Roxb., a useful medicinal herb belonging to the Combretaceae family. This deciduous tree has been used extensively in traditional medical systems, particularly in Ayurveda, as one of the three fruits that make up triphala. Scientists are interested in the plant because of its diverse pharmacological traits and broad phytochemical profile. This study thoroughly examines T. bellerica's botanical characteristics, traditional uses, phytochemical components, and pharmacological efficacy. Among the numerous bioactive compounds present in the plant are tannins (20–30%), gallic acid, ellagic acid, chebulagic acid, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, and other glycosides.Numerous pharmacological studies have demonstrated its potential medical applications, which include antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anticancer, antidiabetic, hepatoprotective, and cardioprotective qualities. These activities are caused by modifications in a number of cellular processes, including the suppression of oxidative stress, the control of inflammatory mediators, and the fortification of the antioxidant defense system. This study highlights T. bellerica's potential as a source of new therapeutic compounds as well as the need for more clinical research to validate its traditional use.
