This paper examines the representation of ecofeminist perspectives in the works of modern Indian feminist authors, focusing on Arundhati Roy, Vandana Shiva, Mahasweta Devi, Anita Desai, and Amitav Ghosh. It explores how ecofeminism, as a theoretical and activist framework, connects the exploitation of women with the degradation of nature within the Indian socio-cultural context. The study analyzes key ecofeminist themes such as the symbolic and material relationship between women and nature, critique of development and industrialization, representation of rural and indigenous women, resistance and agency, and intersectionality. Through a structured theoretical framework and detailed case studies, the paper demonstrates how these authors articulate the gendered dimensions of environmental crises, including displacement, ecological destruction, and socio-economic marginalization. It further highlights how literary narratives serve as a medium of resistance by foregrounding women’s voices, experiences, and ecological knowledge. The discussion reveals that ecofeminism in Indian literature is diverse and dynamic, shaped by lived realities and intersecting inequalities. Ultimately, the paper argues that modern Indian feminist writing not only critiques dominant paradigms of development but also envisions sustainable and equitable alternatives rooted in care, justice, and ecological balance.
