ABSTRACT
A pre-experimental study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of an instructional program on anorexia nervosa among adolescent girls in a selected college in Chennai during the academic year 2023–2024. The study was undertaken as part of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Vijaya College of Nursing, affiliated with The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University.The objectives were to assess pretest knowledge, evaluate the effectiveness of the instructional program, and determine the association between knowledge scores and selected demographic variables. A quantitative approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design was used. A total of 30 adolescent girls were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a semi-structured questionnaire before and after the intervention and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.The results showed that 80% of participants had inadequate knowledge in the pretest, whereas 96% achieved adequate knowledge in the posttest. The mean posttest score (26.03) was higher than the mean pretest score (12.22). The calculated t-value indicated a statistically significant improvement at the 0.05 level.The study concludes that the instructional program was effective in improving knowledge regarding anorexia nervosa among adolescent girls.
