Abstract

One way to look at data science is how it shapes choices in schools, hospitals, money matters, and government work. What comes out of the process ties closely to how solid the information going in really is. When numbers carry slant or miss key parts, results might confuse more than clarify, sometimes causing unjust impacts. Looking into where these distortions begin, what they do, and ways to lessen them becomes necessary. Instead of gathering fresh data through tests, this project leans on reading past reports, real-life situations, and known incidents. Biased results usually come from uneven data, past unfair patterns, or choices people make when gathering and tagging information. Because of how models learn, those slants might carry forward - shaping outputs that quietly harm certain communities. Looking closely at data, being clear about sources, and actively checking for balance helps lower dangers. Ways to catch issues early include routine checks, involving varied viewpoints, and keeping watch over time. Hidden assumptions hide in plain sight; spotting them matters just as much as fixing what comes after
