The growing need in the sustainable construction material has led to extensive research on the creation of green cementitious tile adhesive mortars. This review provides a thorough discussion of the tile adhesive systems that use alternative materials: treated sea sand, sugarcane bagasse ash (SCBA), rice husk ash (RHA), micro silica and polymer modifiers. The paper critically analyses how such materials affect the following key performance parameters such as compressive strength, tensile adhesion strength, workability and durability. The literature analysis (frequency) reveals that the most widely studied properties are mechanical strength and adhesion behavior, and the aspects of sustainable material integration and interactions between multiple materials are not studied intensively. Comparative analysis shows that RHA has a better pozzolanic reactivity and strength gain since it has high silica content and finer particle size, and SCBA has moderate performance gain with sustainability advantage. Adhesion strength and flexibility are greatly increased by polymer modification, and micro silica helps to increase microstructural densification. Treated sea sand use has been found to be effective even to the moderate replacement levels and beyond which performance degeneration is witnessed. Although significant progress has been made, the review reveals some essential gaps in hybrid material systems, long-term durability research, and the introduction of new sophisticated methods like artificial intelligence to optimize mixes. All in all, the given study gives a comprehensive insight into the development of sustainable tile adhesive and points out the direction of future research in order to reach high-performance and environmentally friendly construction materials.
