The India-Europe Free Trade Agreement: Origins, Strategic Rationale and Economic Implications

The India–Europe Free Trade Agreement is one of the most significant trade agreements in the recent years made between foreign regions, named “Mother of all Deals”. This studies the strategic, economic, and policy impacts of the India–Europe FTA, with a focus on its potential to enhance trade, increase foreign investment, and strengthen long-term relations. This study shows as to why India and Europe need to diversify their trade relations due supply chain breakdowns, geopolitical tensions and changing trade relations between countries. The research uses data from news, policy documents, trade statistics, reports from international organizations, and academic studies on FTAs and regional trade integration. This study uses qualitative method approach combining different research studies, statements by experts and theoretical studies on international trade, which will help us to understand comparative advantage, trade theories, and economic integration of the FTA. The study shows that the India–Europe FTA might significantly boost trades in sectors such as pharmaceutical sector, information technology, automobiles, textiles, renewable energy, and subservices sector. This study also identifies challenges involved in the FTA, such as regulatory policies, non-tariff barriers, labour, environmental standards, and intellectual property rights. The study concludes that the India-Europe FTA holds a significant value for mutual economic growth of both the regions and its success depends on balanced negotiations, policy regulation, and cooperation. As this study shows an integrated analysis of economic benefits, social impacts, and policy considerations, it provides many valuable insights for policymakers, businesses, and researchers.
