This paper presents the analysis and design of an auditorium at SRGEC, incorporating sustainable design principles and adhering to the guidelines of the National Building Code (NBC 2016) of India. The design focuses on optimizing acoustic performance, ensuring structural stability, and promoting environmental sustainability. A comprehensive analysis of site conditions, user needs, and building codes informs the design, which aims to create a functional, aesthetically pleasing, and safe outdoor performance space for the college community. The paper explores innovative design solutions, integrating technology and sustainability to enhance the overall user experience. The design process begins with site analysis and planning, focusing on orientation for natural ventilation, acoustics, and visibility. Adequate space is allocated for the stage, tiered seating, circulation, and emergency exits. Structural safety is ensured by considering dead loads, live loads, wind loads, and seismic forces as per NBC load combinations. The structural system consists of reinforced concrete foundations, RCC tiered seating, and a raised stage platform, with provisions for a lightweight steel canopy or tensile fabric roof for shading. Serviceability is addressed by incorporating fire safety (NBC Part 4), accessibility for differently-abled persons (NBC Part 3), proper drainage, and landscaping. Sustainability features such as rainwater harvesting and solar lighting are also considered.
The expected outcome is a safe, economical, and durable auditorium with detailed structural drawings and reinforcement detailing, serving as a landmark facility that promotes holistic development of SRGEC students.
The Paper is based on limit state concept, the structure is designed to resist and liable to bare all loads liable to act on it. It should be satisfy the requirement of serviceability within the limitation of Deflection and Cracking. The analysis done using STAAD-Pro and Structural Detailing had done using AUTO-CAD.
